Part of the Common App is the personal essay, which gives colleges the opportunity to learn more about each applicant as a person and what's important to them. With the seven essay prompts for the 2023-24 application being released, now is a great time for students to begin working on their own essay! The Common Application Personal Essay Workshop is divided into two parts. 

Part 1 will include an overview of Common App and basic formatting guidelines for the essay, as well as activities for students to assess their personal values, challenges, individual details and other important characteristics that should be shown to universities! 

Part 2 will focus on effective writing skills to optimize the essay. Students will be shown example Common App personal essays, and analyze strengths and weaknesses of other example essays.
